I really thought it was possible…
I was after seventh place in the championship and felt that I could battle it out to the end. After disastrous trials I started well, in two laps I had broken away from Spies and De Angelis and was eighth, but then after only three laps something wasn’t right in front, all grip had gone! We then realised that the front tyre had inexplicably lost internal pressure and then had stabilised. So all my hopes faded away and I finished the race last. What a pity!
On Monday I turned over a new leaf! Returning to the Team Gresini box was emotional! Even more emotional was the return to Honda. The tests were very positive; we worked well, now I just have to wait for the new bike in February!
A new virus has hit speed racing: motocross mania! I spent Sunday at Valentino’s race on the basis of his promise that he would come to “mine” on the 22nd at Franciacorta. Let’s see if he keeps his word! The track was spectacular, but it was all a bit too “valentino”…
Track as smooth as a billiard ball and single trajectory on the bend. Only Dovizioso, Gramigni and I had 250’s, everyone else had 450’s. In the trial I went like a rocket, I got pole position with 49.6 in front of Simon with 50.7 and Dovizioso with 51.4. I think that Simon had the classiest and smoothest style of us all. He was on an official Priem Aprilia 450. For the first race I set off 5th, Simon was first and took off straight away, Dovi was in second. After 2 of the 7 laps I was in third and a couple of seconds behind Dovi, I caught and passed him on the second last lap, I was faster, but passing was almost impossible! The same happened in race 2: I started badly, caught Dovi and skidded to pass; I didn’t want to let Simon get away. In race 3 it all went smoothly, I started out well at last, Simon took off not so as not to miss the boat, Valentino took me at the second bend and that was OK. Taking off last, I think 23rd, I started to push it to the max, I was on equal points with Dovi for the general, and all was great. He took off, I really struggled to overtake. Valentino was second and when they calculated it all I was faster than him and so they took off two laps, from 7 to 5 in total to make sure that I didn’t pass him! I ended up right on top of him and lucky for him he messed up and ended up transverse on the last bend blocking the way for me; otherwise I would have given it a go without a doubt!
Anyone there for race 3 must have enjoyed it: from 23rd to 3rd in 5 laps, not so bad!
Another thing that I didn’t like about the event was the fact that the paying public only got to see the race, when I think that they really wanted to see the riders up close in the boxes.
I had fewer passes than at Mugello or Misano!!!
Oh well this won’t happen at Franciacorta, no fiddling with the races and the boxes will be open to the public!
So I hope that you’ll all be there!!!
A big hug! Ciao!!!
Bring on the 2010 season, I cant wait for it to start and with you back on the Grisini Honda its going to be exiciting

damn…Marco I really cant wait!
I’m counting down the days until April…but I need the sound of the engines, the smell of the gas and the burning wheels…NOW!!!
I have been to valencia for the first time and I also thought u gonna make it but I hope u didn’t worried too long and enjoyed your party on sunday night with your hayate staff!?!?
mx mania….isnt it always the same problem that everything is too Valentino and that the infantry dont get the chance to have a look behind the scenes!!! I’m happy to hear that u wanna change that for the next event and for MotoGP it is in your hands that people think its all too “marco” next year!!! ^^
ciao XoXo vivien
